About Us

The Wisconsin Ropers’ Association (WRA) is a roping club that has been around for over 27 years, everyone is welcome from everywhere!!! You do not have to join as a member to rope. But it might be in your best interest to join, as we have a nice amount of added money to finals every year and year end awards. All you have to do to rope at finals is attend 3 of the sanctioned ropings for the year.

Now, the WRA has members in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and many other states. We welcome everyone from any state or anywhere to come rope! The WRA has sanctioned team roping events all over the state of Wisconsin and many of the neighboring states. Every year the WRA holds a finals event. The finals has 5% added money that was held from all the WRA sanctioned ropings throughout the year and added sponsorship money. We had over $10k in 2020!

ROPING NUMBER CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM

Roping Numbers

WRA will use your USTRC issued number for WRA Ropers in most cases. If the Board of Directors feels like your number should be higher or lower, they will hold a meeting and vote to change your number. If you do NOT have a number the Board will issue you a number based on their view of your roping. If you have an issue with your number please contact a board member and we will be more than happy to reconsider based on recent roping experiences.

The WRA Board of Directors has voted effective January 1, 2018 to start using the Triad Roper Classification System. This system uses the “elite” numbers. This allows a roper to be moved 1/2 of a number up or down instead of a whole number up or down. The board believes this can allow for less impact to a roper when their classification number is only moved to an “elite”. This should also allow for a more even playing field as two ropers with “elite” numbers cannot rope together if their numbers equal the roping class. So for instance, a #4 Elite and a #5 Elite cannot rope together in a #9 roping. However, a #4 Elite can rope with a #5 roper in a #9 roping. And, a #5 Elite roper can rope with a#4 roper in a #9 roping. An Elite rating will not be considered for a roper until they are at least a #4 roper.
